It's a hedgehog party!

Morning Folks!
Hope those of you in the UK enjoyed the long bank holiday weekend, shame the weather couldn't have been a bit kinder!

This morning, the new challenge at Passion for Promarkers is just starting - Nat has chosen the theme this week -

KINETIC CARDS

Now, I'll be the first to admit that kinetic cards are soooo not my thing, too much patience required and I always get frustrated if they don't work well. Anyhow, after a tour of Pinterest for ideas, I decided to try a double slider card. I watched this great video here which made everything look easy and set off boldly. I adjusted the measurements to suit a 12cm square card - I just can't think in inches. Everything was going well until I attached the mechanism to the card back and then disaster struck, I hadn't realised that you need to use foam tape so that there is enough space for the back panel to still move. My card just jammed shut!
Lesson learnt, card binned after trying unsuccessfully to salvage the slider part. There followed quite a bit of snarling and some rude words ... this is version 2:

Closed:

and then opened:

In the end, I was pleased with how this turned out but it did take a while!! I've learnt a few things along the way which I'll share:
  • Use a thick strong card for the slider part, otherwise it will just bend
  • Freezer bag works well for the slider and doesn't rustle or fall to bits
  • Don't forget to attach to your card with foam tape or squares, saves a good deal of stress and swearing when it jams up
  • I think it is easier to add the patterned paper to the card tabs when you make them but leave adding the images until you're happy everything slides well
  • Keep the decoration on the tabs thin, so it still slides.
