I spy a blue dragon

Morning Folks!
This week, Kitty has choosen

 MONOCHROME

as the theme for the new challenge over at Passion for Promarkers. Here's my card using the super cute Clyde party which you can find here in the Bugaboo store. I wasn't quite sure that a dragon could be blue but then as my hubby pointed out they are fantasy animals so they can be any colour you like! I'm sure there must be some real dragons hiding out there somewhere - perhaps they are blue!!

Here's the close up view:

The papers are scraps from my blue folder, the dotty one is Papermania and the swirly one is HOTP. I tried the card without the memory box trellis die cut but I decided the touch of silver really lifted the card so after a lot of indecision it stayed!!

The sentiment is from a Humphrey's corner set.

Poppy Fields

Afternoon Folks!
A rare afternoon post for me, I've spent some time just playing today rather than on a DT project - love the summer holidays!

I saw the new challenge at Allsorts earlier in the week and it immediately made me think of a very under used PB stamp in my collection called Poppy fields. Anyway, today I decided to give it an airing and inked it up, here's the card I made:

I didn't really have a plan for this card, it kind of evolved as I went along. The green textured card was from my scraps box and the red polka dot is from a Christmas paper pad left on my desk after trying to reorganise my papers - long job with still a way to go! I couldn't find a good contrasting colour for the matting layers so then I thought use black like poppy centres. The image need something else against the polka dots so another rummage in the red scraps folder produced a piece of corrugated card.

Here's the close up view:

Originally, I was trying to do a square card but it just didn't look right with the rectangular image so I found a rectangular card base and started shuffling things around to get the layout. This is when a light bulb moment occured - without thinking about it this card had a lot of contrast and texture making it perfect for my MIL who is partially sighted, she likes to feel cards and have them described to her. Luck really must have been on my side because I found these felt flowers in my stash:

I added the buttons, ribbon and pearls to give more textures to feel! I'm not often that pleased with a card I make on a whim but I have to say I love this one!!

Here's the original inspiration picture from Allsorts - Thanks ladies for your inspiration!

A tad traditional!

Hi everyone!
We have a new challenge over at SPARKLES CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE today and the theme is:

Use a festive sentiment as the focal point

I've gone for a very traditional feel for my card. I don't have that many large Christmas sentiment stamps in my collection, they tend to be rather small! This stamp could easily qualify as an antique - it is from Anita's and I must have bought it at least a decade ago. It certainly hasn't seen much ink recently. I'm always a bit doubtful when I use an 'old' stamp, particularly if it is a cheaper brand as many don't stamp that well but I was pleasantly surprised with this one! I heat embossed the sentiment using versamark and Stampin' Up gold embossing powder and it came out brilliantly at the first attempt! This card does have a bit of sparkle and gloss in real life but I just couldn't get it to show up in the piccys :-(

The paper is from the Docrafts Papermania first Noel collection - another bargain from The Works. The poinsettia is made using  All Occasion dies and has been covered in Wink of Stella which gives a lovely sparkle.

Please click the piccy to visit the main blog
and see the inspiration from the rest of the design team! You have a whole month to join us, we'd love to see what you make!
